Mount Kyōzuka

経塚山

Mount Kyōzuka is a 519-meter peak on the border of Ōshū City and Hiraizumi Town in Iwate Prefecture, one of the three summits of the Tabashine massif together with Tabashine-yama and Otowayama. Local legend ties the mountain to Fujiwara no Hidehira, who is said to have buried sutras here, and to Minamoto no Yoshitsune via a 'hoofprint stone' on the summit; views from the top take in the World Heritage Chūson-ji temple, the Isawa alluvial fan, and the meandering Kitakami River, with hillside azaleas peaking in late May.
