Mount Abura

Mount Abura is a 597-metre peak in south-west Fukuoka City, straddling Jōnan, Sawara, and Minami Wards just nine kilometres from JR Hakata Station. The name is traditionally said to commemorate the first refining of camellia oil in Japan from the tree's seeds. The municipal recreation centre ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA (formerly Aburayama Citizens' Forest and Nature Observation Forest), set on the mid-slope, serves as the gateway to a network of walking and hiking trails much used by Fukuoka residents.
