Kokumin-shukusha mountain lodge in the Yamanohana area at the western end of the Ozegahara marsh, in Tokura, Katashina Village, Tone District, Gunma Prefecture. The boardwalk into Ozegahara starts in front of the building, which also stands at the foot of the Shibutsu-san trail, about an hour on foot from Hatomachi Pass, the gateway to Oze. It sleeps 100 in 20 Japanese-style rooms, given as private rooms for parties of two or more, and clean sheets are provided. There is one bath each for men and women, shared washlet toilets, a shop stocking canned beer and soft drinks and a cafe corner serving coffee and draught beer from 6:00 to 18:00; free OzeGreenWiFi reaches the building and docomo and au phones work. Dinner from 17:00 brings hot dishes such as beef grilled on a ceramic plate, fried prawns and borscht, while breakfast from 6:00 is rice balls and side dishes in bento form, which can be collected the night before for an early start. No checkout formalities are needed, so guests can leave at dawn. Lunch is served from 10:00 to 14:30, open to day walkers as well. Guests may use the lodge's own free car park at Tokura; private cars cannot go beyond Tokura, so visitors transfer to the shared or shuttle bus there. Children below school age cannot stay.
