愛大石鎚小屋

Emergency shelter at about 1,590m on the Omogo route up the south side of Mt. Ishizuchi, in Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park, Wakayama, Kumakogen Town, Kamiukena District, Ehime Prefecture. It is looked after by the Ehime University Alpine Club and is open not only to club members but to any climber. The original hut was put up in 1952 by Professor Hiroshi Yamauchi of Ehime University's Faculty of Education together with a sawyer; it passed to the university's mountaineering club and alpine club, who kept it going through repairs and rebuilding and made it available as a shelter. In time it decayed and a typhoon left it in ruins, so the alpine club planned a rebuild, and with support including the Ehime University Alumni Association a new hut was completed on 8 October 2006. The Omogo route it stands on is the back pilgrimage way to Mt. Ishizuchi (1,982m), the highest peak in western Japan, climbing from the nationally designated scenic Omogo Gorge over Mt. Omogo (1,525m) and past this hut to the summit. Kumakogen Town notes that few people have walked this trail since the Ishizuchi Skyline road opened, leaving it a long and quiet approach.
