焼岳小屋

A mountain hut at about 2,080m on Shin-Nakao Pass, on the north side of Yakedake, an active volcano in the Northern Alps. From Kamikochi the way crosses Tashiro bridge, passes a marsh where char swim, enters the Yakedake trailhead and climbs gently through woods to Togesawa, then zigzags up a slope of bamboo grass studded with dead trees to the pass — about two and a half hours, with a ladder section along the way. Paths from Shin-Naka-no-yu, Nakao and Nishiho Sanso converge here too, so the hut can be reached from any direction. A few minutes above it is a viewpoint where the sunset is something special. Run by Matsumoto City's Kamikochi tourism facilities operation, it takes guests by reservation from mid-June to mid-October, with two meals or room only.
