瑞牆山荘

Lodging for climbers at 1,520m, directly facing the trailhead for Mizugakiyama and Kimpusan, two of Japan's hundred famous mountains, in the Okuchichibu range. It is about fifty minutes from the Sutama interchange on the Chuo Expressway and the last stop of the Yamanashi Kyohoku bus, roughly an hour from JR Nirasaki Station; the usual route to both peaks goes on from here via Fujimidaira. On the road side is the café and restaurant Montagne, used by passing drivers as well as guests. There is a bath, but only for those staying overnight, and its use is included in the room rate. Parking nearby is free. Temperatures over the year range from −20 to +30°C, and the air is always dry. Reservations are taken by phone or at the front desk; same-day bookings may be declined. This is not a country inn — the facilities and service are aimed at climbers, and guests are asked to turn in early out of consideration for those leaving before dawn. The lodge also takes part in national-park conservation and regional mountain activities.
