富士見平小屋

Small lamp-lit hut at Fujimidaira, inside Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, where the trails to Mizugakiyama, Kimpusan and Ogawayama divide. It is about fifty minutes up the trail from the Mizugaki Sanso car park, with Mizugakiyama a four-hour round trip and Kimpusan seven. The setting offers views of Mount Fuji, a spring chosen among Japan's hundred famous waters of the Heisei era, brilliant night skies, deer and many birds — and the hut runs a café and shop serving coffee hand-dripped one cup at a time with that spring water, its own craft beer, and venison sausages. Lodging is by reservation, in a dormitory for up to 14 or one of five two-person private rooms, all with bedding and power sockets. The campsite is large, taking up to 150 tents, open all year and needing no booking: if the hut is shut you put the fee in the box on the door and pitch. Day visitors are welcome to stop in just for the spring-water coffee.
