From the second torii of Omiwa Shrine in Sakurai, this route follows the approach past the worship hall and the Mi-no-kami cedar to the subsidiary Sai Shrine, then climbs as a pilgrimage to the 467 m summit of Mount Miwa, the shrine's sacred body, and back. A holy mountain carrying an ancient faith that reveres the mountain itself in place of a main hall, it has sacred rock seats from mid-slope to the top and appears in the Man'yoshu poetry anthology.
