From Mitake and Sugihira in Misugi, Tsu, known for the Mitake cherry trees, one of Japan's top 100 blossom spots, this return follows a forest road and a steep shady trail to Sugihira Pass, then passes Sasa Pass to the 1,021 m Mount Gakunodo on the Mie-Nara border. A quiet dome said to take its name from a former shrine to the bodhisattva Monju, its open grassy summit gives views all round to Miune, Takami and Ohora.
