An 1,182-meter peak in the central Ōsumi Peninsula of Kagoshima Prefecture, second-highest in the Takakuma Range after Mt. Ōnogara (1,236 m) and lying on the boundary between Kanoya City and Tarumizu City. The range is designated a Forest Genetic Resources Conservation Forest. From the fifth-station trailhead on the Kanoya side (free car park for 6–7 vehicles, toilets), a roughly 2h55m trail climbs via Chūbei-dake to the summit, where the panorama sweeps across the Ōsumi Peninsula and Sakurajima. Listed in the Kyūshū 100 Mountains (Atlas edition), the Japan 100 Low Mountains (2017) and the Bunken Tozan Guide volume for Kagoshima / Okinawa.
