Mt. Yahazugadake

Yahazugadake is a 461 m twin-peaked mountain in the Mure district of Hōfu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture; its silhouette—reminiscent of an arrow nock (yahazu)—gives the peak its name. In 1336 supporters of Emperor Go-Daigo converted the temple of Genkanji on its summit into the mountain fortress of Shikiyama Castle, and the foundation stones and stone walls remain today as a National Historic Site. From the summit and the prominent 'Hokoiwa' rock the view extends across the Hōfu Plain and Suo-nada all the way to the Kunisaki Peninsula in Kyushu. Two trails—the Shikiyama route and the Forest Park route—give access. The peak appears in the Yamaguchi Hyakumeizan and the Bōchō Hyakuzan.
