Mt. Shiro

A 286 m hill in Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, one of the low peaks extending northeast of the sacred Mt. Mikami. Its summit holds the well-preserved ruins of Kozutsumi-Shiroyama Castle, built in the 16th century by the Nagahara clan as vassals of the Rokkaku, and remarkable for its extensive use of stone walls — unusual for a mountain castle predating Azuchi. Featured in the regional guide 'Omi no Yamashiro 70,' it is currently subject to entry restrictions imposed by the local forestry cooperative, and visitors are advised to confirm access through Yasu City beforehand.
