Shigisan is a 437 m peak in Heguri Town, Ikoma District, Nara, near the southern end of the Ikoma Range, best known as the seat of Chōgosonshi-ji, the head temple of Bishamonten worship in Japan. The mountain's name ("a peak worthy of trust and reverence") is said to have been given by Prince Shōtoku after he received Bishamonten's aid here in the year, day and hour of the tiger, and the temple has been associated with tigers ever since. The summit ridge also preserves the earthworks of the 16th-century Shigisan Castle built by Matsunaga Hisahide, and the mountain — together with neighbouring Takayasuyama — falls inside Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park.
