Mt. Sankōmuro

三鈷室山

An approximately 870 m peak straddling the boundary between Yamatsuri Town (Higashi-Shirakawa District, Fukushima Prefecture) and the former Satomi Village area of Hitachi-Ōta City (Ibaraki Prefecture). It sits at the southern end of the Yamizo highlands within the Abukuma uplands, at the headwaters of the Ōkita-gawa — Ibaraki Prefecture's largest Class-2 river. Its name commemorates a legend in which the priest Gyōki enshrined a sanko Buddhist implement, a Kannon statue, and protective talismans at its three peaks to drive away crop-raiding wolves, and a stone monument at the trailhead recounts the tale. The mountain is included in the Bunken-Tozan Guide: Ibaraki-ken no Yama.
