Mt. Kanjō

感状山

An approximately 305-meter peak straddling Uryū and Mori in Yano Town, Aioi City, Hyōgo Prefecture, crowned by the Kanjō-san Castle ruins — designated a National Historic Site in 1996 as part of the Akamatsu Clan Castle Sites. Tradition records that Uryū Saemon-no-jō built a fort here in the Kamakura period and that, in 1336 (Kenmu 3), Akamatsu Noriyuki held the position for more than fifty days against Nitta Yoshisada's southern army, earning a letter of commendation (kanjō) from Ashikaga Takauji and giving the mountain its name. Well-preserved nozura-zumi stone walls, baileys, gate footings and a well survive on the summit, reached by trails from the Rakan-no-Sato campground that are often combined with a traverse to Mt. Minō. Listed in the Nishi-Harima 11 Mountain Castles.
