Mt. Kagenobu (727 m) rises on the border of Hachiōji City and Sagamihara's Midori Ward as one of the principal peaks of the Oku-Takao ridge, designated within the Tokyo Takao-Jinba and Kanagawa Jinba-Sagamiko Natural Parks. Its name is said to come from Yokochi Kagenobu, a retainer of the Hōjō clan who maintained a fort here in the Sengoku period. As a popular waypoint on the day-hike traverse linking Mt. Takao through Kobotoke Pass to Mt. Jinba, it draws year-round crowds; on clear days the summit looks across to the Shinjuku skyline, Tokyo Bay, and the Yokohama Landmark Tower. Tea houses just below the summit add to the casual, satoyama feel of this much-loved suburban-Tokyo mountain.
