Jūbusan is a 682 m peak straddling Wazuka Town and Ujitawara Town in southern Kyoto Prefecture, the highest summit in the Minami-Yamashiro region. Tradition holds that the ascetic En no Gyōja opened the mountain in 675, and it grew into a centre of mountain Buddhism rivalling Yoshino's Ōminesan — earning the nickname Kita-Ōmine ("the northern Ōmine"). The summit area still holds Kontai-ji, a Nationally Designated Historic Site whose pagoda and stupa survive from the medieval period, along with a circuit of training crags retraced by yamabushi pilgrims. Three trails — the Tachikawa old pilgrim road, the Chifukutani forest road, and the Yuyatani route — climb from the Ujitawara side, and the peak is included in Kinki Hyakumeizan and Nihon Hyakureihō.
