Mt. Hiei

A 760m rocky peak on the border of Kitakata, Nobeoka City and Hinokage Town in Miyazaki Prefecture, forming the centerpiece of the ink-painting landscape carved by the Tsunanose River. About 70 climbing routes have been developed across its three summits, making it a Mecca of Japanese rock climbing. The Tsunanose River basin was designated a Place of Scenic Beauty in 1939. Listed in the Kyushu Hyakumeizan Atlas, Miyazaki Hyakuzan, and the Miyazaki volume of the prefectural climbing guide series.
