Mt. Hakoneyama

箱根山

A 447-meter foothill peak on the border between the Yonezaki district of Rikuzentakata City and the Suezaki district of Ōfunato City in Iwate Prefecture, set within the Hakone-yama / Citizens' Forest recreation area. The observation deck just below the summit commands a sweeping view across Hirota Bay and the Sanriku ria coast, and on clear days reaches as far as Mount Kinka off Ishinomaki. Facilities include the Kesen Carpentry & Plastering Heritage Hall, the Sugi-no-ie Hakone wood-crafting house and a children's play area with a 41.5-meter roller slide; a paved road climbs to the summit car park, but the access to the observation deck is closed in winter for safety. The peak is featured in the 150 Mountains of Iwate.
