Akabane Ski Area trail map
Akabane Ski Area is a city-run hill near Akabane Pass on the border of Tono and Sumita in Iwate, billed as the nearest family slope for Tono and the Sanriku coast. The Ginga slope is served by three surface lifts, and lift tickets are cheap. There is night skiing on weekday evenings, a sledding area for small children, a weekend ski school and inexpensive rentals. The season usually runs from January to early March. It is close to Tono-Sumita IC on the Kamaishi Expressway, and parking is free.
