Mt. Bafungatake

A 985.2 m peak on the border of Iwakuni's Nishiki district and Shūnan's Kano district in Yamaguchi Prefecture, ranking among the higher summits in the prefecture. Its historic name is Himitsuō-dake; the present "Bafun-ga-take" (literally "Horse-dung Peak") was bestowed by locals who saw a resemblance in its shape. The usual approach climbs from Himitsuō Hibumi Shrine on the Kano side, and the broad summit opens out across the Chūgoku highlands. The peak is included in selections such as Chūgoku 100, Yamaguchi 100, and Bōchō 100.
