Mount Umagadake (216 m) straddles the boundary between Yukuhashi City and Miyako Town in northern Fukuoka Prefecture, capped by the ruins of Umagadake Castle. Traditionally founded in the Heian period, the castle hosted Toyotomi Hideyoshi during his 1586–87 Kyushu campaign and was the first Kyushu seat of the Kuroda clan under Kuroda Kanbei (Yoshitaka). A round-trip walk of about two hours opens onto sweeping views of the Kyōto Plain, and the peak is listed in the Fukuoka 'super-low mountains' and the Fukuoka prefectural climbing guide.
