Mount Tonbō (535.4 m) marks the westernmost peak of the Sefuri Range, rising on the border between Yoshii in the Nijō district of Itoshima City (Fukuoka) and Karatsu City (Saga). The name refers to the ten Buddhist temple compounds (juppō) that once stood on its slopes as a centre of mountain ascetic training. The summit is crowned by Bōzu-iwa, a massive rock affording a 360° panorama of Karatsu Bay and the Genkai Sea — and, on clear days, the islands of Iki and Tsushima. The Itoshima Tourism Association issues a combined trail map for Tonbō with neighbouring Ukidake, Onna-dake, and Nijō-dake; the standard route climbs from Nakamura trailhead, a 30-minute walk from JR Fukuyoshi Station.
