Mount Taika is a 362-metre solitary peak rising on the Ōshima Peninsula at the southern edge of Shūnan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, where it juts into the Seto Inland Sea. The summit offers a 360-degree panorama of the inland-sea islands, the Kunisaki Peninsula of Ōita, and, on clear days, distant Cape Sada in Ehime; after dark the Tokuyama petrochemical complex below provides one of Japan's most celebrated industrial night-scenes. A summit drive and several walking trails — most popularly the Kasai-shōto route, about fifty minutes from base to top — serve the mountain, which is included in the Yamaguchi 100 Meizan and Bōchō Hyakuzan lists.
