Mount Shiritsuki

Mount Shiritsuki is a 587 m peak on the border of Matama and Kakaji in Bungo-Takada City, Oita Prefecture, and the highest summit of the north-western Kunisaki Peninsula. Local lore says the name—"the sit-down mountain"—comes from the priest Kōbō-Daishi pausing here when he failed to find a view of Shikoku. From the Kurodo trailhead it is a thirty-minute walk along clearly signed paths to a broad summit with a thatched rest hut. Many hikers traverse to neighbouring Ittanmatsugoedake and Hajikamiyama. The peak is counted among the Ōita Hyakuzan, New Ōita Hyakuzan, and the Kunisaki Peninsula Mountain Guide.
