Mount Futago is a 720 m peak in Jōbutsu, Kunisaki-machi, Kunisaki City, Oita Prefecture, and the highest summit of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The Tendai-sect Futago-ji temple on its flanks—reportedly founded in 718 by the holy man Ninmon—serves as the central temple of the Rokugō Manzan tradition and the hub of the Kunisaki Peninsula Minemichi Long Trail. The walk from Futago-ji past the Hashizu Kannon junction reaches the summit in about 25 minutes, with chains and ropes installed on the steep sections. The peak is listed in Japan's One Hundred Sacred Peaks, the Ōita Hyakuzan and the Kunisaki Peninsula Mountain Guide, among others.
