Mount Ō

A 691-meter peak in the eastern Asan Mountains, straddling the border between Tokushima and Kagawa Prefectures. At about 450 meters on its southern flank stands Butsuou-zan Daisenji, the first temple of the Shikoku Bekkaku Nijurei Reijo pilgrimage, said to have been relocated to its present site by Kobo Daishi Kukai in the early Heian period. Every third Sunday of January the temple hosts the Chikara-mochi festival, in which men test their strength by carrying a 169-kilogram tray loaded with giant offering rice cakes. The summit view is counted among the Tokushima Hundred Scenes, and the peak is recorded in the Kagawa Prefecture Mountain Guide (Bunken Tozan Guide).
