Mount Nakui

名久井岳

Mount Nakui is a 615.4-meter peak in southeastern Aomori Prefecture, straddling the towns of Nanbu and Sannohe in Sannohe District. Its symmetrical cone earns it the nickname "Little Mount Fuji of Nanbu," and a roughly two-kilometer-radius area around the summit was designated the Nakuidake Prefectural Natural Park in 1956. Long revered as the leading sacred peak of southern Aomori, its foothills hold historic temples including Hōkōji and Ekōin. The mountain is counted among Japan's 100 low famous mountains (2017 edition).
