Mount Nakano

Mount Nakano is a 1,519 m peak on the border between Taiki Town and Shinhidaka Town in southern Hokkaido, rising as a pyramid between Mount Petegari and Mount Kamui in the southern Hidaka Range. It is also called Rūtoru-omappu-yama, from the Ainu phrase 'place where the road parts', the meaning of the Nakanogawa River that flows from its slopes. There is no maintained trail; the peak is reached only by advanced river-traverse routes from Petegari or Nishuomanai. The mountain lies within the Hidaka-Sanmyaku-Erimo-Tokachi National Park designated in 2024.
