Mount Dantoku

Mount Dantoku is a 165-meter hill on the border of Himeji and Taishi, Ibo District, in Hyogo Prefecture. A Yayoi-period settlement with a lookout and beacon is said to have stood near its top. A summit rock about ten tatami mats in area bears hollows traditionally identified as the hoofprints of Prince Shotoku’s horse. Another boulder is said to bear marks of Emperor Ojin’s staff and shoes from when he surveyed the surroundings. The Yamana and Akamatsu forces also fought the Battle of Dantokusan here.
