Mount Churenji

中蓮寺峰

A 756-meter peak on the Sanuki Mountain Range, marking the border between Mitoyo City in Kagawa Prefecture and Miyoshi City in Tokushima Prefecture. The mountain takes its name from Churenji, a Heian-period retreat of Unpenji (the sixty-sixth temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage), once on its Tokushima slope and burned down during Chosokabe Motochika's invasion of Awa in the Sengoku period. The summit holds a small shrine and rest area with sweeping views north over the Seto Inland Sea. The 13.3-kilometer Churenjimine Bird-Watching Trail of the Shikoku Nature Trail follows the ridge from here to Wakasamine and Inohana Pass, and the peak is included in the Kagawa Prefecture Mountain Guide (Bunken Tozan Guide).
