Goshiki-gahara Mountain Hut

Mountain hut standing almost at the centre of Goshikigahara, a plateau at 2,500m south of the Tateyama range in the Northern Alps. It lies within Chubu Sangaku National Park, and from the lodge the view reaches Tateyama, the Ushiro-Tateyama range and, far off, Yarigatake and Hotakadake. The name Goshikigahara — 'five-coloured plain' — comes from the interplay of alpine flower meadows, lingering snow and bog pools. It sleeps 72, and as a mountain hut accommodation is generally in shared rooms. There is a drying room and a dining room. Ten minutes' walk away is a campsite for 50 tents with stream water and a toilet. The season runs from the first half of July to early October, though closing can come early depending on water supply and weather. Stays are booked by telephone through the contact office.
