白木峰山荘

Unstaffed free rest house and emergency shelter at about 1,540m on the flank of Shirakimine (1,596m), in Shiraki-Mizunashi Prefectural Natural Park. Toyama City's climbing guide calls it Shiraki Sanso. It has bio-toilets, one each for men and women, but no water source, so water must be collected down at the Sugigahira campground. From the eighth-station car park, which holds about 20 vehicles, the summit is roughly 60 minutes by the footpath route or 70 minutes by the service road; the hut lies along the way, just below the helipad where the two routes rejoin. The summit area is open grassland with bog pools where nikko day lilies and cotton grass bloom, looking out to the Tateyama range, Hakusan and Toyama Bay. This is bear country and precautions are needed.
