Emergency shelter on the summit of Saihogadake (764.1m) on the Tsuruga peninsula. The top itself is enclosed by trees with no view, but the climb from the trailhead north of Tsunogu Shrine passes a series of huge granite outcrops — the Okunoin lookout, Oumu-iwa and Kamoshika-dai — from which the panorama reaches beyond Tsuruga Bay to the Hakusan range, Lake Biwa and the Tango peninsula. The trailhead is about 22 minutes from JR Tsuruga Station on the Tsunogu community bus, or roughly 18 minutes by taxi. The ridge running north to Sazaegadake is a pleasant trail overlooking the bay; the full traverse from the Tsunogu trailhead to the Urasoko trailhead takes about five to six hours. With its many rock sections the route is rated for intermediate walkers.
