From the Oda rest area, this loop climbs Mount Hokyo on the Gokurakuji Trail through clusters of large rocks and the mountain-cherry woods, then returns on the Oda Castle Trail through Tomiokayama and the Yogai viewpoint. The summit holds the stone hokyointo pagoda that gave the mountain its present name and offers views of Mount Tsukuba, Lake Kasumigaura, the Kanto Plain, and Mount Fuji in clear air. Stay on the city-designated trails marked by yellow stakes.
