This out-and-back route climbs from Uchiyama Pass to the Tomoiwa viewpoint at the north end of Mount Arafune, then crosses the broad lava plateau to the mountain's highest point at Mount Kyōzuka. Tomoiwa overlooks Mount Asama and the Myōgi mountains, but its viewpoint stands above a near-vertical cliff roughly 200 metres high, so keep well back from the edge.
