From the trailhead near Village Hakushu in Hokuto, Yamanashi, wooden steps lead from larch into broadleaf forest, then over the bamboo-grass meadow of Sasanohira and past a spring near 1,700 m to 2,037 m Mount Amagoi, just north of Kaikomagatake. The name comes from a legend that villagers short of water climbed here to pray for rain, and the summit gives close views of Mount Fuji, Kaikomagatake, Nokogiri and the Hoo peaks.
