Kamafuse Mountain Ski Resort is the city ski area of Mutsu on the Shimokita Peninsula, set on the south-east flank of Mt. Kamafuse so close to the sea that you ski with Mutsu Bay and the town spread out below. Two upper slopes offer advanced terrain, including an ungroomed pitch of up to 35 degrees, while the lower area has a fun park with rails and boxes, a gentle beginner slope and a free kids' area with a snow escalator and sled run. Lifts are free for junior-high students and younger, and the slopes stay open into the evening. It is about eight minutes by car from JR Ominato Station.
