Mt. Tamashimayama

球島山

Okushiri, Hokkaido · Elevation 369 m

A 369.3-meter peak in the central part of Okushiri Island, its third-highest summit. A 360-degree panoramic observation deck crowns the top: on clear days visitors can see Matsumae's Ōshima and Kojima off the coast, while at night the fishing lights of squid boats and a star-filled sky light up the view. Spring cherry blossoms, early-summer rugosa roses, and autumn beech foliage paint the slopes through the seasons. Selected as one of the Shimayama Hyakusen (100 best island mountains in Japan). The access road closes during winter.
