Mt. Onigajō

A 620-meter peak in Toyoura Town, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, set on the Nagato–Hibiki-Nada ridge that overlooks the Hibiki-nada and Genkai-nada seas. Legend traces the name to Kasumi-in-oni, the leader-demon of Ōeyama's Shuten-dōji defeated by Minamoto no Raikō, who is said to have fled here; the grassy summit carries a stone monument to the Dragon King and offers a 360-degree panorama from the Kanmon Strait and Kitakyūshū across the Genkai-nada. The standard mid-grade route walks 40 minutes from Seii Elementary School near JR Kuroizuka Station to the trailhead and a further 90 minutes to the top. An annual citizens' climb is hosted on the mountain. Listed in Yamaguchi Hyakumeizan, Bōchō Hyakuzan, Chūgoku-chihō no Yama 100 and related rosters.
