Mount Ryūō

Mount Ryūō (613 m) straddles the Yoshimi and Uchihi districts of Shimonoseki City in Yamaguchi Prefecture and is a sacred peak dedicated to the Dragon King deity of rain and agriculture, with three Ryūō shrines (Lower, Middle, and Upper) staged on its slopes. The summit opens onto an approximately 500 m² grassy plateau commanding 360° views — north to the Hibiki-Nada, south across the Seto Inland Sea, and east to the mountains of northern Kyushu in the distance. A section of the Chūgoku Nature Trail traces the mid-slope, with the standard climb leading up from Yoshimi Station past the Ryūō shrines, and a longer traverse linking Mount Sukisaki to the Fukasaka 'Ecopia no Mori' at the southern foot. The peak is listed among the Chūgoku 100 and the Yamaguchi 100 Mountains.
