Mt. Morotsuka

諸塚山

Morotsuka, Miyazaki · Elevation 1,341 m

A 1341m peak on the border of Morotsuka Village and Takachiho Town in northern Miyazaki Prefecture, serving as a symbol of Morotsuka Village. The name derives from approximately a dozen round burial-mound-like features at the summit, and the mountain has long been venerated as a sacred peak and a Shugendo training ground. Also called 'Nanatsuyama' (Seven Peaks) for its seven-summit ridge, or 'Taihakusan'. Highlights include beech primeval forest near the summit and Akebono azaleas around the western trailhead. Listed in the Kyushu Hyakumeizan.
