Mt. Kyōzukasan
経塚山

A 636 m peak in the Takeda district of southern Sado City, Niigata Prefecture, identified by Niigata Prefecture's "Niigata Bunka Monogatari" cultural portal as the highest summit of the Kosado mountain range. The name preserves a tradition that, after the death of the exiled Emperor Juntoku on Sado, the sutras he had chanted in life were burned at the summit and their ashes interred to raise a "sutra mound." The Mano grazing pasture spreads across the lower slopes, where dairy cattle are turned out in early summer, and on clear days views extend over the Ōsado range, the Kuninaka plain, and the Echigo Mountains beyond. The mountain is listed in Niigata's 50 Selected Mountain Walks and the Echigo Hyakuzan.
