Mt. Koshidake

A 488-meter conical peak rising south of Imari City in Saga Prefecture, known as "Imari Fuji" or "Matsuura Fuji" for its graceful Fuji-like silhouette. The mountain is a major prehistoric source of obsidian — locally called "karasu-no-makura" — and stone tools made from Koshidake obsidian have been excavated at archaeological sites throughout Kyūshū and beyond, making it one of the most important obsidian provenances in western Japan. Two trails serve the summit: a northern route via the Trappistine Convent and a southern Koshi-no-tōge trail from the Ōkawachi-yama porcelain village, which together offer views over Imari Bay, the city, and Mount Kunimi to the northwest. The peak is listed in the Bunken Tozan guide of Saga mountains.
