Mt. Kakuidake

隠居岳

A 669.7 m peak in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, at the southern end of the Kunimi Range running through the central Hokumatsuura Peninsula. Its name traces to a legend that defeated Heike warriors retreated and hid here, and the peak is also called Nishin-take. The Kyūshū Nature Trail passes the mountain on its way from Mt. Kunimi, and at roughly 470 m on its mid-slope the city-run "Kakuidake Walker's Park" preserves a 4.1 ha stand of native Yamatsutsuji azaleas with a visitor centre, serving as a base for hikers heading on toward Mt. Kobashi and Mt. Eboshi.
