Mount Otsu is a 256 m hill in Nankan, Tamana District, Kumamoto Prefecture, whose elegant conical profile has earned it the local nickname ‘Nankan Fuji’ and the affection of residents. The summit preserves the ruins of medieval Tsuzuragake Castle and is reached by two trails, one from Otsuyama Aso Shrine on the west side and another from the northeast. Views extend over the Kyushu Expressway and Nankan town to the Ariake Sea and Mount Unzen. The hill is also known for cherry blossoms, wisteria and azaleas.
