Mount Kaiko

海向山

A 569 m mountain beside Esan at the southeastern tip of the Oshima Peninsula in Hakodate, Hokkaido, it is one of Esan volcano’s lava domes. Both mountains lie in a prefectural natural park and a Forestry Agency recreation forest. The nearest trailhead facility is the 300 m crater-floor car park. Its aging, faulty toilets are due for closure, with one temporary toilet in use. There are no toilets toward the summit, and the encircling rim largely blocks mobile reception.
