Mount Iwafune is a 173 m hill in Iwafune-cho, Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, crowned by the Tendai temple Koshoji. Six hundred steps lead up to a view over the Kanto plain, and the precinct holds a three-storey pagoda and Nio gate among its cultural properties. Known as one of Japan's three great Jizo temples, it draws many pilgrims at the spring and autumn equinoxes seeking blessings for children and safe childbirth; it is 20 minutes' walk from Iwafune Station. Its former quarry is also used for special-effects filming.
