Hosshinzan is one of the principal peaks of the Minō range—which runs about 30 km east–west south of the Chikugo Plain—spanning Yame and Kurume cities, Fukuoka Prefecture, at 698 m. Its summit holds the ruins of Hosshin Castle, a medieval fortress of the Kusano clan, and the trail begins at Hosshin Park at its foot. The Minō range is also called "Byōbu-yama" (folding-screen mountain) for its steep, screen-like profile.
