Mount Hongu-Takakura

A 458-meter peak in Nishinaka, Akaiwa City, Okayama Prefecture. The name Honguu ("original shrine") preserves the memory of an ancient shrine that once stood on the summit before its sacred object was relocated to Takakura Shrine at about 350 meters on the mountain's flank. The maintained hiking course climbs to a broad summit with seasonal cherry blossoms, wisteria, and autumn colors, and on clear days offers a panorama stretching from the Seto Inland Sea across the Chugoku Mountains to Mount Daisen in Tottori. It is included in the 100 Famous Mountains of Okayama Prefecture.
